The workshops dedicated, over the course of two days, to the policies for the recognition of studies at the European and international level, brought to attention and subjected to debate a series of topics of current interest for the academic community and employers, such as: digital transformation in the implementation of policies of recognition and the role of artificial intelligence, transnational education, national challenges in recognizing refugee qualifications, automatic recognition. The debates also focused on the application of the main international legal instruments in the field (the Lisbon Recognition Convention and the Global Convention on the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications) and the operationalization of some regional conventions (Tokyo for the Asia-Pacific region, the Convention for the Arab States and the one for Latin America, Addis Ababa for Africa).

The Council of Europe, for its part, continued the series of information actions related to combating fraud in the field of education and promoting ethics, transparency and integrity in education and presented in this regard its recent publication, “Glossary of terms for ethics and integrity in education” ; the publication can be consulted on the ETINED pan-European platform on ethics, transparency and integrity in education.

This year’s meeting was marked by the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the NARIC network, whose Secretariat is provided by the European Commission. Having European Union states as members, the NARIC Centers support and provide assistance for the implementation of the Lisbon Convention on the recognition of studies by the competent national authorities of the signatory states of the Convention. At the same time, they serve as a multilateral cooperation mechanism within the UNESCO Europe and North America region, ensuring the link with other UNESCO regions.
