CNRED, selected by the Council of Europe in the working group on the use of Artificial Intelligence in the recognition of qualifications

The National Centre for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas (CNRED) has recently been selected by the Council of Europe to join the working group established for the development of activities under the Artificial Intelligence and Recognition of Qualifications Programme. In this project, CNRED is participating alongside experts from Andorra, Croatia, France, Georgia, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, North Macedonia, Malta, and Portugal, as well as from organizations such as the European Students’ Union, the European University Association, and UNESCO.

The programme, initiated by the Council of Europe, aims, through the support of selected experts, to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the qualification recognition process. The goal is to automate routine tasks, detect fraudulent documents, and harmonize recognition methods in line with principles that are mutually applicable across borders, thereby strengthening mobility.

CNRED will be actively involved in all activities related to the AI and Recognition of Qualifications Programme, supporting the working group’s objectives:

– assessing the opportunities and risks of using AI in qualification recognition, from the perspective of Council of Europe values (equity, transparency, non-discrimination);

– developing guidelines, tools, and practices for integrating AI into recognition workflows;

– providing support and training for qualifications evaluators in the use of AI technologies;

– contributing to policy development and strategic frameworks, in line with the Lisbon Recognition Convention;

– facilitating international cooperation on data-driven and AI-based solutions.

Romania’s participation in this working group represents an opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of relevant recommendations for academic mobility, benefiting both the national and international education systems.
